GYROKINESIS® Method

The octopus, the monkey and the cat are my basic models because they can move in any direction at any given time with strength and control because they have no restrictions. The human body has restrictions, but I can model the body—within the framework of its restrictions—to move in a similar way, to be free.

The GYROKINESIS® program invented by Juliu Horvath is composed of several different dynamic workouts. Each class format offers the same benefits as GYROTONIC® exercise and shares all of the core principles of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® without the use of any equipment. This methodology works the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement and systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. These movements, coupled with corresponding breathing patterns:

  • stretch and strengthen the muscles
  • improve joint biomechanics
  • stimulate the nervous system
  • tonify the internal organs
  • open energy pathways
  • oxygenate the blood

Fluidity is the key to this modality. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, they are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like dance or swimming than like traditional yoga.

Advanced classes add endurance training for students prepared for more strenuous activities.
